Adoption of Five Children
By: Carol McCourt

More than seventy years ago, Rev. Everett Swanson from Chicago made it his mission to help children escape poverty.  His efforts became known through a Child Sponsorship Program which has expanded to all corners of the world and is now known as Compassion International.
Last December St. Simon’s had the opportunity to adopt 5 Compassion children.
Samuel is from Haiti and he is 3 years old. His mom tells us that he is a good boy that likes to play and watch cartoons.  Mom tells us the weather is hot.
Melany is from Bolivia; she is 3 years old. Her mom tells us that Melany likes to play cooking with her little sister. When she is not cooking she plays with her dolls and teddy bear.  Her favorite color is pink and she loves clothes.
Geraldo is from Nicaragua; he is 10 years old.  Geraldo has a stepbrother and they paint together.  He is in the 4th grade and plays soccer. He enjoys reading the Bible.
Cylius is from Uganda, he is 12 years old. Cylius writes his own letters. He likes playing football with his friends at school. He has a goat that birthed 2

kids recently and with his birthday money, he bought a pig. He also helps in preparing the land for the planting of vegetables.
Yerko is from Bolivia, he is 16 years old. Yerko is in high school. His skills are playing music.  He plays the flute, clarinet and piano. He is also part of his school band and competes.  He has decided to join the military once he graduates.
All of these children are displayed on the bulletin board in the Mary Stevens Room at church. They are posted with pictures and letters received.  Each child has letter sheets and postage paid envelopes for you to write a letter to a child of your choice.
Won’t you stop in?
